(January 03, 2010)
Team Warrior used a four-goal run in the final 4:05 of the second half to defeat Mesa Fresh 2010 by a 10-8 final. Miles Thompson scored two of his four goals in the game during the home stretch, while brother, Lysle, assisted on three of the team’s four tallies to secure the victory.
“That showed some heart, coming back from two goals [down] and winning by two,” said Mark Burnam, head coach of Team Warrior.
In a game that included four ties and four lead-changes, Lysle Thompson (2g, 5a) won key face-offs late in the second half to gain extra possessions for Team Warrior. On the game’s final score with 11 seconds remaining, Lysle fed Miles on the crease. Miles put an exclamation point on the victory by scoring a behind-the-back, between-the-legs goal.
Chase Growney led Mesa Fresh 2010 with three goals, while Max Siskind had two goals and one assist.
Team Warrior will take on 2006 elite division champion Edge Senior Elite (ONT), which defeated the Roughriders (MD), 8-7, in the other semifinal, in the national championship game at 2:15pm. Mesa Fresh 2010 and Roughriders play at 1:00pm for 3rd place.
